Eco-printing, natural dyes, plant pigments, textile art, organic painting and artistic installations. Leaves, flowers, seeds and roots become materials for creativity and ecological awareness.
NOMA creates clothing dyed and printed with plants gathered from the land, and shares the craft itself through botanical workshops and techniques.
The botanical art workshops at Flora Flow are being prepared with NOMA. The starting point is the same as for the clothing NOMA makes: plants gathered from the land, which dye and print the fabric. In the workshops, NOMA shares the craft and the botanical techniques behind that work. Meet NOMA on the partners page.
In eco printing, also called botanical printing, leaves and flowers are laid directly on the fabric, and the plants leave their colour and shape on it. This is how NOMA prints clothing with plants gathered from the land.
Natural dyeing starts from the same idea: the colour comes from plants. Plant pigments also feed organic painting and artistic installations, the other forms of botanical art that Flora Flow brings together with textile art. The technique itself is learnt in the workshop, hands in the material.
For Flora Flow, creating with plants is also a way of respecting them. The project imagines its space and experiences with sustainability in mind, starting with natural and local materials and the protection of biodiversity. In botanical art, that means working with what the land gives, with respect for the cycles of life, one of the project's values.
In the space Flora Flow envisions, the botanical studio is the area meant for this work. For now it is a vision, and the project images are illustrative: see what the space in Colares will be.
Plant pigments reach the youngest too. Natural pigment workshops for children and botanical art are part of the planned family programmes, for children and their accompanying adults.
